Annual Dinner
You'd be forgiven for not recognising the attendees of the 2007 annual ball with the huge variety of masked attendees.
The masks ranged from the slightly odd to the immensely glamorous. The Ariel Oar mask, peacock feathers mask and
gaffa-tape and nuts masks are worth a special mention, however everyone made an effort and looked wonderful.
The night was a great success, the captain remembered all the wins of the year (no mean feat), the food was good,
the drink flowed and everyone did the Hammer Time.
Congratulations go to the winners of the various prizes of the night, the Senior men's 8+, Clair Wadden, Gorden Breen,
Neil Cobb, Chris Rowley (best mask) and Linda Hooper. Pictures.
Stacy's leaving party: Arrr!
The Llandoger Trow was awash with Pirates last weekend for Stacy's leaving party. Despite having to choke back the
tears, the rowers were out in force to give Stacy a fantastic goodbye to the UK and Ariel. As well as a gaggle of Pirates
and Wenches, there were a couple of ghostbusters and a Parrot! As the night progressed, and one bottle of rum
turned into two, the Pirates dwindled. The survivors, including Stacy herself, visited the pie shop before going home for
a not-very-early night. Despite that, at least 4 of the survivors were found at the rowing club in the morning paying
their dues to the goddess of water - Ariel.
Beetle drive
It was yet another night of good food and slightly odd fun down at the rowing club. The winner of the night, one of our
guests, took away with her a bottle of wine and the knowledge that everyone was sure she had cheated! There was
however no doubt that Steve deserved the wooden spoon (apparently the second he has won of late). The best, but
possibly most worrying, moment of the evening was seeing the artistic attempts at Beetle drawing. Some were good,
some were bad, and most were just scary. Many thanks to Naomi and Clair for all their work before and during the
night.
Pub Night
Yet another night out in the pub, and unfortunately for some "6 beers is the perfect warm up for a race" Steve was out
for the evening. The morning after effects on some members were not entirely unexpected. I would like to say that our
elevate athletes were on orange juice and power shakes all night, but unfortunately the idea of celebrating a
successful head season was too ingrained - and celebrate they did.
Quiz Night
The quiz night proved to be incredibly popular, the event was sold out. We were all treated to a top-notch curry and
beer before the quiz itself kicked off. The winners of the evening were the very aptly named "Sarah's gorgeous", who
each took away a box stuffed with fruit and vegetables - important for the development of fit rowers.
Other winners for the evening had bags of nuts and slightly less healthy, but utterly delicious sweets. Thank you to
everyone who was involved, and to everyone who helped out with cooking, cleaning, setting out tables and those who
kindly donated prizes to the event. Everyone left the evening with stomachs satisfied, and heads still befuddled with
the question of why there was a Michael Jackson section to the quiz, and if there are really THAT many styles of shoe in
the world.
