Fundraising

BARC Calandar
As part of the funding raising for this year the Men's Intermediate Squad is producing a BARC Regatta and Head Racing
season calendar for the 2009/10 season. With some many club events, from regatta's, socials, meetings to Head races
over the next 12 months a calendar with all the key dates seemed to be useful. The calendar is aimed at BARC
members and their friends and families who are always asking 'so where are you this weekend?'. It also aims to show
the range of activities within the club, with the picture for each month showing a specific activity for that month (for
example November has the annual meal).
The calendar is being professionally produced and will, when open by A3 in size. Costs are predicted at between £5 to
£10. It is hoped that the calendars will be available for the first race weekend of the season, Evesham.
BARCarat lottery.
This is the 2009 Veteran Squad organized fund raising initiative to help buy new oars to use with the new boats the
club is buying this year. It is open to all members of the Club and you can buy subscriptions that you allocate for friends
or relatives if you wish.
BARCarat is a closed, fixed number lottery based on a standard pack of 52 playing cards. Hence there are only 52
subscriptions and you have a better than 8-in-52 chance of winning your subscription back and 1-in-52 chance of
winning the star prize of £500. Compare that with the chance of winning a share of the National Lottery at 1-in-
14,000,000!
The surplus money goes into the equipment fund and should pay for a set of oars for a new 4+ and more - so we all
win in the long run anyway!
Rules:
1. Each subscription is £50. This buys your name on one playing card.
2. You can buy as many subscriptions as you wish and can buy in at any time up to the final draw at the 2009
BARC Dinner.
3. Each month from April 2009 to October 2009 on the last Thursday of the month at the Boathouse the pack of the
cards sold so far will be cut under the watchful eyes of John Filor or Julian Tavener to select a monthly winner to get
their £50 subscription back (or they could of course buy another subscription).
4. All cards sold go into every monthly draw. . Once bought in you cannot withdraw nor change your card.
5. At the BARC Annual Dinner 2009 the whole pack is cut to select one lucky winner of £500. But you have to be “in
it to win it”.
What to do now:
1. To subscribe see Julian Tavener or Geoff Lester (Vet squad on Saturday or Sunday mornings) with cash or your
cheque payable to “Bristol Ariel Rowing Club” for £50.
2. You can decide which cards you want or select at random as you wish.
3. Your name is written on the card in the BARCarat pack and set aside for the remaining monthly draws. It is as
simple as that.
4. Get in early to maximize your chance of winning.
Planned draw dates are:
Thursday evening 30 April 2009
Sunday lunchtime 31 May 2009
Thursday evening 25 June 2009
Thursday evening 30 July 2009
Thursday evening 27 August 2009
Sunday lunchtime 27 September 2009
Sunday lunchtime 01 November 2009
Final £500 draw at the club dinner.
See Geoff Lester, Veteran Squad, Saturday or Sunday mornings for your lottery card or e-mail Geoff Lester.
Be in it to win it - and even if you loose you'll get to play with the kit we can buy!
